At Livescale, we know how important is video quality.
Because after all, we are consumers too !
As we know that expertise around video resolution is not a common share, here are some key technical informations to help you understanding the basics of digital video
1/ Video resolution
As you know, video resolution has made giant steps in the latest years.
From VHS to Blu-Ray Ultra, we now, as consumers, want to enjoy a high level of video quality, and that start with video resolution.
As you can see, we made radical progress in 20 years ;-)
In terms of device, most devices can deliver FullHD resolution, from low-end LCD TV to less-than-100$ Android Smartphones.
In terms of social networks, most of them deliver a HD video quality. But latest high-end smartphones, from Apple (iPhone 11 Pro) or Samsung (Galaxy S10), as well as latest desktops, laptops or LED TV supports UltraHD resolution, even if they won't show the whole resolution (most of the time 2.5K resolution, especially smartphones).
2/ Video framerate
The video framerate represent the number of frame that you will find in a second of video.
The more your framerate is high, the smoother your video will look like. It's especially right in the video game industry, where high detailed scenes can seems very cheap with low framerate.
The video standard is 30 images per seconds (30fps) ; but 60fps start to be more and more frequent, especially for FullHD and UltraHD, for avoiding quality downgrades.

3/ Video bandwidth
The video bandwidth is a critical and logical parameter : the more "space" you have, the more data you can transfer, and the more detailed and precised your video will be.
Despite latest progress in video compression (such as MPEG4/H.264 and recently HEVC/H.265), you need sufficient bandwidth to stream your content.
It's particularly critical when you upload your video content to Livescale ; as "big" your video will be, as more the compression of your video on the Livescale platform will be efficient, since we generate multiple streams of different resolution and bitrate so your end-user will enjoy brilliant video.
